Soft Eyes + Dramatic Lips Makeup Tutorial

Last year I started wearing lipstick. Before that point, I'd always felt silly using it. As a teenager I felt too young to wear it and that feeling stuck with me even as I became an adult. I'd only ever noticed a couple of people around my age wearing it so I was worried that people would think I was weird if I did. I thought that it looked great on those couple of girls but I didn't feel like it looked all that great when I tested it out myself.

Thanks to blogging, I've started to care less about looking weird and more about what I enjoy wearing. I experimented with lipstick and at first I still felt like it wasn't flattering on me. Now that I've gotten used to it though, I love it! I now wear it once or twice a week. In fact, I would probably wear it more if I wasn't a stay at home mom and if it didn't keep me from being able to kiss my little Eve's cheeks..

At the beginning of fall, I decided to experiment with some darker lipsticks. Once again I was a little concerned that I'd receive strange looks but it didn't keep me from trying it. I'm certainly glad that I did! I think that dark purple or plum lipsticks are perfect for the colder months!

Here I'm sharing what was one of my go-to looks this past fall. To prevent looking too vampire-esque or too overdone, I chose light, warm eye makeup. This helped to keep my lips the main focus of my look.

Step 1: Apply foundation, concealer, and any highlighting/contouring products you wish to apply. I used Maskcara's IIID Foundation. I also filled in my brows at this point.
* The IIID foundation comes with two tones so that you can use your foundation to contour instead of bronzers etc.*

Step 2: Apply an eyelid primer and then apply a shimmery, light copper eye shadow over your main lid. I used NYX Ultra Pearl Mania in Mink Pearl
*Using a shimmery shadow means that we don't need to add as many colors to define the eye- the light will do this for us. You can see in the picture above that the eye shadow looks darker in the outer corner of my eye.*

Step 3: Apply this same shimmery copper eye shadow below your eye.

Step 4: Dab a pale gold shadow to the middle of your main lid. I used Urban Decay's Midnight Cowgirl from the Book of Shadows Vol IV
*A cheaper option is NYX Ultra Pearl Mania in Nude*

Step 5: Line your top lash line with black liquid liner, winging it out a little at the outer corners.

Step 6: Apply mascara to your top and bottom lashes.

Step 7: Apply a purple toned lipstick. I used Maybelline Color Sensational Lipcolor in Mauve It Up.

And you're done! Have fun looking amazing!

  4. Such a gorgeous look! The bold lip really completes it. I too was lipstick averse until I started blogging, now I wear it in real life too. Thanks for the tutorial, your skin is perfect and you are SO beautiful!

  5. Beautiful look! It's gorgeous without being overdone! And I can relate to feeling self-conscious or "weird" wearing makeup that you didn't wear for most of your life. I nevvvver wore makeup in high school, and didn't even start wearing MASCARA until I was in college! Now in my late 20s, I'm finally coming around to using lip products besides balms :)
