Momsemble Monday: Taking Time for Yourself

This momsemble was brought to you by my desire to air dry my hair and not curl or straighten it. A.k.a laziness ;)

This may be the first time I've worn a baseball cap since I was fourteen years old. But the practicality of a baseball cap could no longer be ignored. As a stay-at-home mom, there are days when there are no errands to run and I just stay in with my girls. On those days, if there's a sudden need for me to go out, such as taking the girls to the park or going for a walk, the idea of getting all dressed up isn't very appealing. And spending more than a couple of minutes on my hair seems wasteful. Enter the baseball cap. I can throw one on with a basic ponytail, not worrying how my bangs are sitting or about any unsightly lumpy hair areas. And of course, it's an excellent concealer of... not-so-clean hair.

Don't get me wrong though, I think that taking time for your appearance is important as a stay-at-home mom. Even if you are staying in the majority of the time. I always feel better on the days I do some basic makeup and get dressed in something other than an oversized tee and yoga pants. I'm sure my husband appreciates it too.

Being a stay-at-home mom is difficult in a lot of ways. Especially mentally and emotionally. The lack of adult conversation, children who ignore and frustrate you and produce continual messes, and the monotony of repeatedly doing dishes and laundry can be exhausting and disheartening. And that's why taking time for yourself is so important. Getting dressed, putting on a little makeup, and doing something to your hair, can help you feel a little more put together and accomplished. I also think hobbies and a little you-time are essential. Having something you're passionate about helps you feel like more than "just another mom." My blog is one thing that does this for me.

And for those of you who are not moms yet, please don't take this to mean that I don't enjoy staying at home with my kids. I love it and am so grateful we're in a position where I can be at home. But of course, it isn't perfect every single moment. Neither is being a working mom. Or a woman with no children. But you make it work for you in the best way you can.

  1. I would LOVE to be able to stay at home with my daughter, but I totally see the reserve side of it all. Going to work is my adult time, my other life, and the evenings are my mom life. At this point, I have no idea if it would be for me or not, and we're not in a position where it would work for us financially. I love that your blog represents the side of you that you hold onto. Your "you" time, as you call it. I totally get that your mom job is just as a working mom. (:

    1. Sometimes I find myself wishing I could work but I think it's just one of those things where "the grass is always greener." I think you have to choose to be happy in life and to the see the bright side of your situation. Whether that's working or staying at home. I have such respect for moms who work outside of the home. I can't even imagine how exhausting it must be! You're a rock star!
