Letters to Lily: One Month

Dear Lily,

I'm a little late on this letter. You're actually less than a week away from being two months old. I just made the last minute decision to write these posts about you. I wrote letters to Eve for her first year of her life and I feel like you deserve the same thing!

Your first few weeks have really blown by. You're changing so fast it's almost unbelievable. Even though I've been through this with Eve it has still taken me by surprise. It's fun to see you change and grow but a little part of me is always sad when I stop and think about it.

You are an amazing little nighttime sleeper! A couple of days ago you slept through the entire night! Eight solid hours of sleep! I was so shocked that when Eve woke me up in the morning I had to go over and check on you to make sure you were okay. You were, of course. I'm sure you just wanted to give me the early Mother's Day present of a good night's sleep. It was very, very appreciated.

You struggle a little more with sleeping during the day. You tend to take tiny little catnaps lasting from 10 minutes to 20 minutes at a time. Eventually by sometime in the afternoon or evening you will sleep for two hours because you are so worn out.

Since you were about four weeks old you have been quite fussy during the day. You have a really gurgly little tummy that seems to bother you. Gas drops help a little but they don't make you completely happy. I guess you take in a little too much air when you feed. Hopefully this will get better as you get older. For now, I just have to spend a lot of time holding you and walking around with you to keep you happy. You're probably just trying to help me be more active so that I can lose this baby weight faster. How considerate :)

Since you have your upset tummy, your smiles are a fairly rare occurrence. I take advantage of the time after you've had your first feeding of the day following a good night's sleep. That's when you're the happiest and the most generous with your cute little smiles.

You already seem to love your older sister. You stare at her whenever she is near you and even smile a little when she giggles at you or makes silly noises around you. It's the cutest thing and I can't wait to see your relationship develop more.

I love you so much little girl and I'm so glad you came to our family.

Love, Mom

P.S. Eve saw how much fun we were having taking pictures of you and just had to be apart of it... including wearing a one month sticker. Looks like you weren't too happy about sharing the spotlight though.
