Fall 2015 Trends and How to Wear Them

If you haven't already, now is the time to start thinking about your fall wardrobe. While I love quality, lasting staples, I also love to add a few trendy items into the mix. Styling them can be a fun challenge and keeps you from falling into a style rut.

For those of you who didn't have the time (or the desire) to look through runway pictures to determine what's in this fall, here is a recap of some of the fun trends that were present. I've also shared some items and tips that would help you to incorporate these trends into your own outfits, without looking quite as over-the-top (or frankly, scary) as many runway looks.

The 70s inspired trend from the spring is carrying over to fall. Rich browns, rust, and olive green were seen all over the runway. To me, these colors perfectly represent fall. This is one of the easier trends to incorporate into your own wardrobe.

Keep it simple by wearing an olive tunic top, a rust scarf, or brown slacks (of course, you might not want to wear those all at the same time!)

Think high collars, lace, puffed sleeves, ruffles, and chiffon. This is such a fun and ultra-feminine trend and it's the one I'm most excited to try.

Keep things modern by pairing with leather, bright colors, and looking for pieces with sexier silhouettes.

We're talking exaggerated fishnets, embellishments, and Victorian-inspired lace. Patterned tights of different varieties have been trendy in the past but I've generally shied away from them. This fall I'm going to push myself to wear more of them, particularly embellished ones.

If this trend intimidates you, try wearing cable knit tights. The texture adds interest without being overwhelming.

Fur was on EVERYTHING. Fur coats, stoles, cuffs, pockets, collars, and shoes.

If you're not up for wearing a bright blue fur coat, try wearing a fur scarf or a fur trimmed jacket or gloves.

If you loved the fringe trend of the spring, don't worry, it's not going anywhere. Refined fringe was present on the runway, along with a rendition called carwash pleats.

To expose less leg, look for a skirt with lining under the carwash pleats or pair with opaque tights.

There aren't many low-cost options for this trend, but it would make a pretty easy DIY!

  1. I have been binge buying everything olive, burgundy, and mustard colored I can find. Like, obsessed. So I guess that falls into the 70's colors scheme. (; Have a great weekend Sierra!
