DIY Gold Desks and Chair
Now that we've bought our own house, we finally have enough rooms for me to have a work space/ craft room. But given the big expenses that we've incurred (house, couches, rugs, bedroom set), I haven't had a lot of funds to do much with the room. That's when I decided to check out IKEA. Sure, the stuff is very minimalist and not always pretty, but I figured I could spice something up a little.
This turned out to be a really easy project! All it took was a can of gold spray paint to really transform two desks and a chair. The total cost was $82! The other desks I had been looking at were about $200 just for one!
Materials:
For the Desks:
Ikea Linnmon Table Top (1 per table)
Ikea Adils Legs (4 per table)
For the Chair:
Step 1: Lightly rub sandpaper up and down each of the table legs to give the spray paint something to cling to. Wipe off any resulting paint dust that's produced.
Step 2: Spray each of the table legs with gold spray paint in short up-and-down sweeping motions. Be careful not to apply too much at a time to prevent drips.
Step 3: Inspect your table legs. If necessary, apply a second coat within an hour of spraying your first coat.
Step 4: Lightly sand each of the metal pieces to the chair
Step 5: Spray all of the visible parts of each of the chair pieces with gold spray paint. Once again, be careful not to apply too much at a time. Wait a few minutes before reapplying to any areas.
Step 6: Wait for about 50 minutes and then flip your pieces over. Spray any areas that are unpainted.
Step 7: Wait for 48 hours and then spray everything with an acrylic spray to prevent the gold paint from getting chipped off. Allow to dry for at least 24 hours.
Step 7: Screw your legs onto your table tops
Step 8: Assemble the chair base
Step 9: Attach the curved metal piece to the bottom of the plastic chair . We found the best way was to use a flat-blade screwdriver to pry away the chair a little. Then put the chair onto the base.
That seriously looks so good! IKEA is seriously the best! Shipping is usually mad, but the nearest one is only about a 4 hour drive. Totally worth it and the dining in PA is divine! (:
ReplyDeleteThanks! I love IKEA! Luckily ours is only 45 minutes away. I think we've gone three times in the past couple of months ha! My hubby may be getting sick of it..

I am so impressed with how this turned out! This went from looking basic and unexciting to really glam and pretty. I have an IKEA not too far away and need to remember that I can give their stuff little "upgrades" like this!
